Parents and School

We believe excellent communications between parents and teachers are essential for the well-being and education of each child. At Middle Barton we work hard to make these as straight forward and accessible as possible.

Informal

  • We welcome and encourage all parents to be fully involved in all aspects of School life. Parents may talk informally to teachers either before or after the school day. If you prefer you may ‘phone the school to make an appointment instead.

  •
  • Staff will informally approach Parents at any time of the year to discuss their child’s progress if they believe this may benefit the child or the parents.

  •
  • Each classroom has a supply of our CCC forms for you to record your Complements, Comments or indeed Concerns. These receive prompt attention from a member of the Governing Body.
Formal
  • In September each year we hold Parent Information Evenings to describe the teaching aims for the year ahead (curriculum) as well as practical matters concerning the everyday organisation of the class and classroom

  • In the autumn and spring term we hold Parent Consultation Evenings where your child’s progress is fully discussed including how parents can support the work in class through activities at home.

  • In the summer term a full written report is presented to each child’s parents describing the progress achieved through the year. This report is the basis of discussions in the following autumn’s Parent Consultation Evening when we discuss your child’s progress and how you may support your child’s education.
Useful Information
  • Details of all forthcoming events, diary dates, celebrations and appeals for help as well as other activities are all publicised through our weekly newsletter from our Head Teacher. These are sent out either via email or pupil post each Wednesday.

  • Information concerning school policy, aims or other information of interest to parents is published through the Governors newsletter three times a year.

  • Parent's views are sought regularly on a variety of topics through questionnaires and more informal discussions. The results of these are published through the two newsletters.

Parental help in the daily life of the school is actively encouraged and welcomed. Typical activities include:

  • Reading buddies
  • Resource making such as making number lines for Maths etc
  • Supporting the supervision of children on educational visits out of school
  • Running after school clubs
  • General curriculum activities such as helping on Design Technology making days.
  • Sharing a particular skill or expertise, e.g. musicians, artists, craft skills, IT support. If you have a skill or expertise, please let us know, you’ll be surprised how much use we can make of you.
